A thesis on radioactive substances

Marie Curie received her doctorate in 1903 for Recherches sur les substances radioactives. The thesis presented a systematic account of the new field: how radioactive emissions could be measured, how activity varied across substances, and what the Curie investigations had established about polonium and radium.

The same year, Marie Curie, Pierre Curie, and Henri Becquerel shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for research on radiation phenomena. In 1911, Marie Curie received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her work on radium and polonium.

Historical note: This is a modern summary of the research, not a text written by Curie.
